SeaGlance

Privacy

Who is responsible for your data: SeaGlance, a product in development by its founder in Belgium (the company is being set up). Questions, a copy of your data, or a request to change or erase it: reply to any email from SeaGlance, such as your reservation receipt. You can also complain to the Belgian Data Protection Authority (gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit.be).

This website

The site sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads no advertising trackers. The fonts and images are served from this site itself, so your browser contacts no other company when you read it.

If you came here from one of our adverts, the link carries a short code naming the advert (for example utm_source=instagram). The reservation page keeps that code in your browser tab while you look around (session storage, gone when you close the tab) and, if you reserve, stores it with your reservation. That is how we see which adverts work. It does not identify you.

Hosting

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare receives your IP address and browser details when you load a page, in order to deliver it and protect the site from abuse. SeaGlance does not receive or keep these details. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

€1 reservations

When you reserve, you pay €1 on a Stripe checkout page. Stripe Payments Europe (Dublin, Ireland) handles the payment; your card or bank details go to Stripe only and SeaGlance never sees them. SeaGlance receives from Stripe: your name, email address, country, the model you picked, whether you ticked "launch news", the advert code if there was one, the date and the payment reference.

We use this to hold your early-bird price, to email you a private link when the Kickstarter campaign launches, and to refund your €1 (at launch, or sooner if you ask). The legal basis is the reservation you asked for (GDPR article 6(1)(b)). Counts per model and per advert are used without names to plan production and judge the adverts.

Reservation details are kept until the campaign is over and your €1 is refunded. The payment record itself is kept as long as Belgian accounting law requires. See Stripe's privacy policy.

Launch news (mailing list)

If you tick "email me launch news", your email address goes on the SeaGlance launch list, kept with Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, Paris, France; data stored in the EU). You first get an email asking you to confirm; without that confirmation you are not added. The list gets a few short emails about the launch and nothing else, and it is never sold or shared. Every email has a link to leave the list, which deletes your address. The legal basis is your consent (GDPR article 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw any time. See Brevo's privacy policy.

The SeaGlance device

SeaGlance fetches wave data straight from public ocean data services (NOAA, the Irish Marine Institute, CDIP, Rijkswaterstaat and, through this site, Meetnet Vlaamse Banken) and looks for software updates. It sends no personal data, has no account, no camera and no microphone. Your Wi-Fi name and password stay on the device; Settings › Factory reset or Forget Wi-Fi erases them.
